Found a silicone doll scammer on Facebook

Post by Lorimidwife »

Hello, everyone. I've been a member of dollfan since 2002, haven't bought a lot of dolls in the past decade, but I'm still a paying member! I just sent zelle money to Mendoza Reborn and silicone dolls to buy a beautiful silicone doll, I sent her $500. She didn't message me often and sent me a fake shipping announcement, tracking number disappeared 24 hours later. She has probably shut her page down already and opened up a new one. I believe she is using photos of other people's dolls. She told me that somehow, the post office found marijuana in the package and we both had to go to the police station because she doesn't know how it got there. I told her she was lying, she blocked me and I am out $500! I have pics of the doll and her messages. Her stated name is Regina Mendoza. If I've posted this in the wrong place, please let me know! If anyone has any ideas of how I can report her, let me know that too! Thank you! Lori Wilson

Lori, if you paid her through PayPal you can file a claim against her and recover your money. You can also put a stop payment through your bank.

Lori I am so sorry this happened to you. I really don't buy dolls much anymore. I've only ever bought silicone dolls from trusted members on DollFan. I don't belong to any FB doll groups and I wouldn't feel comfortable buying from someone one FB unless it was someone I knew from here. I have bought dolls from a couple doll shops, all BJD's. Please absolutely file a case with PP and your bank and I would contact the Attorney General's Office in your State Consumer Fraud Division and see if they can help. Thank you for letting us know about this horrible person. Sending prayers and positive thought that this gets resolved quickly for you.it

I just realized you said you sent her money through Zelle someone on here I think said that banks won't help if you used Zelle. I would for sure contact your bank regardless and pursue all the avenues listed about.

So sorry this happened to you, Lori! Makes me furious when I read things like this!!! It seems to be going on a lot more now. No matter how much you research, or check these people out, they still manage to scam people!!!
Have you reported her on Facebook?

I only buy from people that I know on here, and that I’ve had dealings with before. Way too many scammers on Facebook, and they do nothing about them!

Hopefully your bank will get your funds back.
Hugs Annette

Yes, I reported her, but it seemed too easy, I probably didn't hit the correct "report" button! This sort of thing would never have happened to me 20 years ago when this place was super busy and I knew to avoid that sort of obvious scammer! My rustiness cost me some money! Very few places to go where someone is selling a real silicone doll.

Maybe these days, the only safe way to buy anything doll related, is directly from the Artist. And then, only ones who are well-known. Or from people you’ve bought from before. But prices are getting so high, which is when the scammers come out of the woodwork. 😞 They’re so convincing, and know there is nothing you can do to them, because neither Facebook, nor EBay or PayPal, do anything to penalize them, or help the buyer to get their money back. There are no consequences for the “seller”, only loss for the buyer. 😞. (in my opinion, the police should have a direct link to those pages, because it seems there’s more scammers on there than anywhere else!)
Fingers crossed your bank can help.

And an afterthought…….go onto the groups on Facebook, where they put out the names of known scammers, and add hers (if it’s not been put on there already!).
Hugs Annette

Hi, Lori! I remember you!
I was just in a conversation on FB where a new collector was asking how not to get scammed. My number one advise was not to use Zelle or a bank transfer. Sorry this happened to you!
Blessings!
