How to clean yellow eyes

Post by Susanq »

Does anyone know how to clean yellow eyes on a vintage manufactured doll like an Ideal Dy-Dee Baby?

Thanks.

You might look on this site to see if they have anything to help with that.

Twin Pines of Maine have great products for help with things related to vintage and new https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q ... Jst6Gx9MtT

I should add that over the years I have used a number of the products and they have all worked really well for me.

What a great question!
I have an OOAK that has painted eyes, that the white has turned yellow. I was wondering if those could be fixed??

It could be a surface film that has discolored the white area. I would test it out and get a baby wipe and wipe it a little bit and see if it a film comes off. But I have ruined many a things with my brilliant ideas and you don’t want to smear the paint or wipe it off! If it is an old doll I would be inclined to think it was just a surface film.

Thankyou.

I am very wary of using anything to wipe the eyes, being that they’re painted. So tried a dry q-tip....took the dust off, but the yellow is still there. I’m wondering if maybe they were sealed with something, and it’s the sealer that has gone yellow?

This is what I found out on google: Yellowing of paint is due to most likely an oil based paint having been used and the yellowing paint is due to lack of sunlight. Putting it in sunlight should reverse the yellowing. How ‘bout that? Has this doll been away from direct sunlight?

Wow! Thankyou! Yes, it’s always been away from direct sunlight. I will go and move it now.

Have you managed to find out how to fix yours?

I put her/him in my sunroom window yesterday. Will leave it there for a few days and see if anything happens. We haven’t had much sun of late, so it may take a while. But I will let you know if it works.

I found someone on eBay who specializes in eye repair and I think eye replacement is the only way to go with manufactured doll eyes.

You’re right. So are you going to go that route?

My baby is still sitting in the sunroom staring directly into the sun.
But I don’t see any improvement in the colour of her eyes yet. It may take a while.

I will later when I have the time/energy to contact her and set it up and box up the doll and mail it off. Or Maybe I’ll just buy another one with good eyes!
