Hello all,
I bought a pre-loved Molloy here and she came with barely any hair given the age. Put re-rooting her as part of my New Year plans haha I really love her.
How do I re-root her without having to remove her glass eyes, ruining her painting, and/or warping her kit?
Will the glass eyes get ruined if it's heated in a NuWave oven?
Please help...would really really love to give this baby some well deserved hair.

Does she need repainting too? The glass eyes themselves won't be ruined in the oven, but the glue used to hold them in may melt and seep through the eye sockets. Also, if she has applied eyelashes they will not fare well in the oven. Why do you need to bake in the NuWave? Is she a hard vinyl? A rice sock heated up in the microwave then placed inside the head should help to soften up the vinyl. I hope this helps!

Yes, she is a regular vinyl reborn - not the super hard one. The previous owners appear to have tried re-rooting it themselves and unfortunately, there are tons of visible rooting holes. I've heard before that heating it up may help close these holes, but now I'm not sure if the holes perhaps are way too big now for salvaging. They may have used those large gauge rooting needles, like a 38 or something, and then did a blind root jabbing technique on it...Elle Rae wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2020 8:55 am Does she need repainting too? What if I heat on lower setting? Will that help not melt the eye glue? If not, I guess I can re-apply the eyes. She doesn't have applied eyebrows and she doesn't need re-painting. Will re-heating possibly make the painting come off if touched? I sure don't want to mess with Nelerina's paint job. It is nicely done and is holding up well despite the age:)

If painted with genesis, heating will not hurt the paint job at all. Not sure about air dry paints as I haven't used those. Is the existing hair glued on the inside? If so, it will get gooey when heated, so just make sure it's all the way dry before rerooting. If you don't mind the baby having a full head of hair, it will be easier to cover the holes. They probably won't go away completely with heat, but you may be able to shrink them.
